Ali Hassan Manik, the island's Imaam, began teaching Quran and Islam informally. This evolved into "Makuthabussaniyya," later relocating to the community house.
The community constructed the first formal school building using local materials. Opened as "Fainu Makuthabu" on September 29, 1981.
The I.H.E.P School project brought significant expansion. Foundation stone laid October 9, 1983, by R. Atoll Chief Qasim Kaleyfaanu.
The expanded institution was inaugurated November 17, 1985, by Minister Abdullah Hameed.
The school was officially renamed "Fainu School" on June 24, 1999.
Transitioned to English medium instruction.
Transitioned to government management on December 1, 2005.
Grade 8 established, expanding through to upper secondary level.
The first national SSC examinations were held.
